The Avengers And Star Wars Unite In Patton Oswalt's Incredible Parks & Recreation Monologue

Patton Oswalt's geek bona fides have been extremely well-established throughout his entire career, but rarely more spectacularly that in this clip from this week's episode of Parks & Recreation. Playing a local Pawnee citizen trying to block a City Council vote, Oswalt does what anyone going on a good filibuster does: rambles a stream of endless nonsense. Unlike Rand Paul on the House floor, though, Oswalt's nonsense is a surprisingly convincing plot synopsis for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, including a crossover to the Avengers universe that involves Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet.

As you'll notice this happens entirely in a single take, and Oswalt name checks an astonishing amount of names and statistics from the Star Wars universe-- while also taking the time to knock Hawkeye and Black Widow for not being top-tier Avengers characters. I'll leave it to the Star Wars diehards to pick through all the insane ideas Oswalt suggests for what might happen in Star Wars: Episode VII, from Chewbacca's severed head to a love triangle between Lando Calrissian, Princess Leia and Han Solo. Make sure to watch through to the end, when the members of the Pawnee City Council and even the audience leave the room, but he manages to include the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. So many crossovers! He doesn't account for the fact that Fox has the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, not Disney (which is the entire reason for his Avengers/Star Wars crossover to begin with), but we'll let it slide.

Patton Oswalt, you have earned your title as King of the Geeks, not to mention your recent status as America's conscience. Long may you reign.
