Bad Boys 3 Has A New Release Date

Look, comic book characters, superheroes, and vigilantes have their place in the world of cinema. However, sometimes what we really need is a pair of badass cops. Luckily for us, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence seem to have an acute understanding of this need. The Bad Boys franchise has begun to move forward with its third installment – aptly titled Bad Boys 3 – and we finally know when exactly the action thriller will blast its way into theaters.

Based upon a new report from Screen Rant, we now know that Sony has bumped the release date of Bad Boys 3 from February 17, 2017 to June 3, 2017. The details remain shaky, but the primary impetus for this decision seems to stem from the fact that Sony pictures has finally managed to get the ball rolling on their long-awaited Dark Tower adaptation – which will star Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey – and as a result the studio has opted to push the third Bad Boys film up for a summer release.

Sony had also previously announced that a fourth Bad Boys film would follow the upcoming release of Bad Boys 3. However, unlike Bad Boys 3, the release date for Bad Boys 4 has remained consistent even with this new announcement at July 3, 2019 – although it remains unclear as to how Will Smith’s newfound commitments to Suicide Squad 2 will affect Bad Boys 4.

This decision seems to show a great deal of faith in the project. The summer of 2017 will be a major season for blockbuster movies, and as such Bad Boys will have to contend with some heavy hitters in the world of comic book adaptations. Among the competition, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s cop thriller will go up against Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – just to name a few.

Details regarding Bad Boys 3 have remained sketchy at best. As of now all we really know for sure is that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have both signed on to return as loose-cannon Mike Lowrey and family man Marcus Burnett, respectively. We recently reported new details about the film’s upcoming villain, who the filmmakers have intentionally shrouded in a great deal of mystery. That same report also indicated that longtime Bad Boys director Michael Bay may step down from behind the camera, with The A-Team director Joe Carnahan stepping in to replace him.

As always, we will keep you up to date with the latest and greatest information regarding all of your favorite franchise as it becomes available to us. Bad Boys 3 will now hit theaters on June 2, 2017, and Bad Boys 4 will follow two years later on July 3, 2019. Stay tuned for more details.
