Big Names Line Up For Desperaux

Universal is planning a new computer animated movie with high priced voice talent behind it. Variety reports that they've locked in Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Kline, William H. Macy, Stanley Tucci, Robbie Coltrane, Christopher Lloyd, Justin Long, Tracey Ullman, and Sigourney Weaver to star in The Tale of Desperaux.

The script is an adaptation of a series of children's books by Katie DiCamillo, who also wrote the book Because of Winn-Dixie was based on. Slightly less rooted in reality, Desperaux tells the tale of a small mouse who falls in love with a beautiful Princess and embarks on a quest to change his world.

Corpse Bride director Mike Johnson is already signed to direct, and Pleasantville scribe Gary Ross will produce and write the script.

Kids will probably love it, but if we're going to adapt another mouse adventure movie I'd have gone with "The Mouse and the Motorcycle". No princesses or obvious fantasy magic in that one though, so I'm sure it's somehow less marketable.
