Blood Diamond Debuts A Week Earlier

Congrats to Warner Bros. Pictures for having a valuable jewel on their hands. According to Coming Soon, the studio is bumping the release date of Blood Diamond, Edward Zwick’s hotly anticipated action drama, a week earlier to December 8, 2006. This bold move gives it a needed boost for Oscar season.

And what is the reason for their newfound confidence? Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, says: "We have seen the positive buzz on the film building, so it made sense to put it up on screens as early as possible to take advantage of what promises to be excellent word-of-mouth.

He adds, "We also want to give Academy and guild members every opportunity to see 'Blood Diamond' on the big screen in anticipation of a very competitive awards season."

2006 is shaping to be a very disappointing year for movies, so I’m hoping that the buzz for this one is warranted. Blood Diamond is about a South African mercenary (Leo Dicaprio) and a Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) whose lives intertwine when they’re both hunting for the same rare pink diamond. Things get wildly out of hand, hence the cryptic title.
