Borat And Ron Burgundy Are On The Case

Up until this point Judd Apatow has produced movies that focused on modern types of bumbling dudes, but now it looks like he might be headed to the past, with two of the best possible time-travel buddies in tow. Variety is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen will play Sherlock Holmes, with Will Ferrell as his trusty sidekick Watson, in an untitled comedy about history's most famous detective. Cue up the London fog and the Hound of the Baskervilles! Apatow nation is going overseas!

Weirdly enough, Guy Ritchie is apparently planning his own Sherlock Holmes, though I imagine that one will involve a lot more gritty language and actual British people. For my money, though, the Baron Cohen- Ferrell team is the one to beat. Even though they acted together in Talladega Nights, I've always thought of the two actors as existing on separate yet awesome planes of comedy. And while Talladega was a Will Ferrell vehicle, this one will star Baron Cohen-- but not as one of his Ali G characters, which is key. Putting together these two actors, who can both be fairly accused of relying on the same shtick one too many times, is a stroke of genius. Regardless of how the movie turns out, it'll be a thrill just to see these two work off each other onscreen for two hours.
