Chris Columbus Will Not Direct The Next Superman Movie

While X-Men: First Class seemed to dominate all of the the comic book movie news from yesterday, the big rumor to break out was that Warner Bros. is looking at Chris Columbus to direct. The rumor wasn't exactly met with excitement, but, fortunately, as many anticipated, it's not true.

Collider has received word on good authority that Warner Bros. is not pursuing Columbus for the gig. The story did hold some weight, as the filmmaker has both a history with the studio and is known for helming franchises, but, as the article says, "the rumor was just one of those cases of a titillating story catching fire and igniting intense speculation."

The truth is that while he is not a bad director, Columbus' films don't match the maturity level of Christopher Nolan's work and a collaboration between the two likely would have ended in disaster. He's not a bad filmmaker by any means, but he's just not the man for this particular job.
