If you're worried you're a little too excited about David Cronenberg's upcoming Cosmopolis, don't worry-- the new trailer for the film is surely even more excited than you are. Boldly claiming that it's "finally the first film about our new millennium," this glimpse at the film is longer than the ones we've seen before, heavier on dialogue and cameos from a lot of recognizable actors, and yet, just as inscrutable. That's totally a good thing, mind you, but when you get to that big claim at the end and the long list of famous names, the hard sell begins to get a little… well, weary. See for yourself in the trailer below.

What I like is that the trailer for the movie boasting about its relevance to our modern age is also so damn weird, with the giant rat crawling through the streets, Robert Pattinson sitting in the back seat of a limo making what seem to be illicit deals, and a lot of people talking in big terms but not really making any sense. It's disorienting just to watch this trailer, after Cronenberg's last film A Dangerous Method seemed to adopt the stiff and formal rules of the period, it's fantastic to see the director of The Fly once again cutting loose. Taken with the earlier trailer, there seems to be a lot of strangeness to reckon with here.

Cosmopolis will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, but we're going to have to wait a little longer to see it here in the States. If the movie follows through on the promise we're seeing in these trailers, though, we probably won't have to wait all that long.
