Earlier today as I was writing about the comment January Jones made recently about the Fifty Shades of Grey poster being similar to Mad Men's, it crossed my mind that Universal and Focus Features might find a way to offer fans of E.L. James's romantic trilogy a little tease from the movie today. Not only is is Valentine's Day, but it's also one year from the planned release weekend of Sam Taylor-Johnson's hugely anticipated adaptation of the steamy novel.
And sure enough, the above photo landed on the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Facebook page along with the caption, "See you in a year. Happy Valentine's Day!"
The image shows us what appears to be the start of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's romance. In the book, college student Ana is filling in for her best friend by interviewing billionaire businessman Christian Grey for their college newspaper. The interview serves as an introduction for the awkward and virginal Ana to the confident and sexy Christian Grey and though there's plenty of tension between them, a connection forms. From there, the two spark a romance as Ana eventually finds herself led by Christian in exploring the rougher side of sex and S&M while also falling for the handsome but brooding and tormented mogul. This new image teases the start of all that, with Ana staring nervously at a man who's presumably Christian Grey. HIs back is once again to us, just as it is in the poster. In the book, the couple's introduction involves a stumble, which may be moments from happening in the scene we're glimpsing.
While we've seen Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan together already, this appears to be the first official still from the film, and the timing couldn't be more perfect, given the holiday and the one-year countdown. The film was originally supposed to arrive this Summer, but production delays and casting issues -- namely Charlie Hunnam dropping out and Dornan being cast to take his place -- resulted in the film's release date being moved to February 13, 2015.
With a year to go, we have months to wait for other images and teases to arrive. In the meantime, we did get this teaser poster, which also shows us the back of Christian Grey:
It recently caught the attention of Mad Men star January Jones, who noted the similarity of the poster to the Mad Men Season 4 poster from 2010. We took a closer look at those comparisons here.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson based on a script from Kelly Marcel, Fifty Shades of Grey stars Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Eloise Mumford, Luke Grimes, Jennifer Ehle, Max Martini and Victor Rasuk.
