Naysayers beware: I’m still psyched about the idea of a sequel to The Dark Crystal, so if you’re reading a news story about the announced film from me, it’s likely to be positive.

Always one upping us regular Muppet fans, Muppet Central not only announced the upcoming film but also got their hands on some conceptual artwork. The art (featured in smaller form here) shows “Queen Kira”, the aged version of the heroine of the first Dark Crystal who uttered the line that will prove males inferior for all of eternity: “Of course not, you’re a boy.”

According to Muppet Central’s article, The Power of the Dark Crystal is but one part of the planned follow up to the 1982 film. Also on the drawing board: an animated series, a manga comic book, and licensed books, sculptures, and clothing. Should I just hand my credit card over to Jim Henson Studios now?

As reported before, The Power of the Dark Crystal is slated for a 2007 release and will be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky.
