Gary Oldman Claims Dark Knight Rises Will Contain Yet Another Classic Batman Villain

Here’s a confusing story in which neither the people asking the questions nor the person being asked seems to know what they’re talking about. Since it’s about The Dark Knight, I think it’s worth our time to try and figure out what’s going on here.

The people asking the questions are eonline, where they don’t seem to know that Bane will be in Dark Knight Rises, played by Tom Hardy. So when they encountered Gary Oldman, who played Commissioner Gordon in the previous two Batman movies, they took a moment away from trying to catch Amanda Seyfried in a nip slip to ask him if he knew who the villain of The Dark Knight Rises was going to be.

Apparently Gary Oldman, even though he’s definitely in the movie, hasn’t really been following any of the casting news either because he took this clueless query seriously and answered it this way, “I think it's a villain from one of the old, old, from way back from the old comics.” Now that’s interesting because Bane didn’t appear in the comics until 1993. Of course Eonline then went on to speculate that it was Bane, because I guess they don’t have access to the Batman Wiki So, two people who may not really know what’s going on have come together and stumbled on to something interesting. Well done forces of random chance.

Oldman also says it’s definitely not the Joker, of course one sentence ago he didn’t really seem sure about anything at all. But I think that’s safe, it’s not the Joker and there’s no reason to think Bane is the only bad guy in the movie. In fact there’s still the matter of Joseph Gordon-Levitt who’s supposed to be in the film and has been rumored to be playing some sort of baddie. Maybe this is him? There’s an endless supply of so far unused classic Batman villains to choose from.

This could all have some relation to the wild rumor being circulated last week in which an anonymous source claimed “The League of Shadows”, Liam Neeson’s outfit from the first film, would be involved somehow.
