A few days after Warner Bros. announced the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 release, Sony has its eye on the 3D prize. The company has announced it will release a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 3D combo pack, marking the first time Part 1 has appeared in 3D.
You would think if you were both a Harry Potter fan and a 3D TV owner, this would be a pretty sweet development. There is a catch. Sony’s exclusive release will only be offered to Sony 3D product purchasers. In this case, it would actually be better if you haven't yet purchased the 3D technology. According to the press release:
This exclusive “Harry Potter 3D Experience” will be available to consumers who purchase Sony’s BDP-S780 Blu-ray Disc player with 3D or BDV-E580 Blu-ray 3D home theater system. Additionally, the same Harry Potter 3D titles will be bundled with two pairs of Sony active 3D glasses, TDG-BR250/DBL, as a “3D starter kit.”
The set, which will also come with Blu-Ray copies of both films, will street on November 11, the same day Warner Bros. releases Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 . If you are just looking to buy a copy of the last film in the franchise, you won’t earn anything by purchasing Sony products; however, if you are thinking of purchasing a 3D Blu-Ray player or other 3D products, the Harry Potter 3D combo pack release offers an extra incentive. For better or for worse, it’s nice to know there will be 3D Blu-Ray copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 out in the universe.
Keep in mind films in the Harry Potter franchise will be vaulted by Warner Bros. on December 29.
