If we've learned anything from the movie world in 2011, it's that Kevin Bacon is still quite awesome. Between Super and X-Men: First Class he has shown that he still has the skills that made him a star and also plays a pretty damn good villain. Hopefully he'll take what he learned from those films and apply it to his newest gig.

Variety has learned that Bacon is currently in negotiations to play the central antagonist in R.I.P.D. Set to be directed by Robert Schwentke and co-starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, the film is based on the comic series of the same name by Peter Lenkov. The script was written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, whose previous work includes Clash of the Titans, Aeon Flux, Crazy/Beautiful and The Tuxedo. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 28, 2013.

The story follows a young cop named Nick Walker (Reynolds) who is killed while on the job and hired to be a part of an afterlife police force: The Rest In Peace Department. Teaming up with a gunslinger from the Old West named Bo (Bridges), Nick works to find the man who killed him. While the article doesn't explicitly say it, one can assume that Bacon will be the man that murdered Nick Walker.

While the fact that Manfredi and Hay are holding the pens gives me pause, the cast is slowly becoming absolutely stacked. Who the hell wouldn't want to watch a movie in which Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges hunt down Kevin Bacon?
