Learn How To Get Divorced By 30 From Sascha Rothschild

Finally someone will bring a splitting up how-to guide to the big screen. Up until now we only had The Break Up and Stepfather to reference. Variety says Sascha Rothschild will get a chance to write the script for the film adaptation of her column (and memoir) “How to Get Divorced by 30.” Seems they couldn’t find anyone to do it justice and decided going right to the source was the best option.

I guess this will kind of be like Carrie Bradshaw, but in reverse. Instead of wondering how to find and maintain love, we’ll get a firsthand look at what it means to get married too young and to the wrong person. That this movie is being touted as a romantic comedy is surely a sign of our increasingly non-committal times. I’m not saying divorce can’t be funny. I enjoy watching people suffer as much as the next guy. And while I’ve never read the book, I’m sure it’s a memoir about the search for something real and sustainable rather than a manual on divorce (although it could be).

Rothchild writing her own script will probably mean retaining some of the actual feelings and pain while looking at the humor hidden in something terrible, like divorce. At least she’s found success in living and reliving and reliving and now reliving again on the big screen something most people never want to think about ever.
