Will Loki Return For Thor: Ragnarok? Here's What Tom Hiddleston Says

Thor: Ragnarok is easily one of the most anticipated titles of Marvel Studios' upcoming Phase Three slate, but the reality is that we know very little about it. Chris Hemsworth is attached to star, but the movie is currently without an announced supporting cast, plot description, or even a director. Of course, one of the big questions surrounding the movie is whether or not we will see the return of Loki - but that's not even a question that Tom Hiddleston can answer, apparently.

The actor has begun the press tour promoting director Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Crimson Peak, and it was while talking with Coming Soon that he discussed his future as the Asgardian God of Mischief. Discussing his beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Hiddleston revealed that he really doesn't actually know anything about what's next for the character or where he might show up next. Asked about bringing more depth and even sympathy for Loki in the future, he explained,

I don’t know. I think I won’t be able to help it if I ever play him again, and I just don’t know when that’s gonna happen, if that’s gonna happen. I would never lose his dimension, but it’s so interesting. I’ve talked with Chris Hemsworth, how those characters have changed as we’ve changed. It’s five years ago since I played him for the first time. That’s a long time ago. So who knows what I’ll be cooking up!

It's very possible that Tom Hiddleston really does know nothing about his future as Loki, as Marvel may be avoiding telling him anything simply because they know that he will be asked a lot about it in various interviews. That being said, it's pretty impossible to believe that the God of Mischief won't be back in Thor: Ragnarok - and not just because the character is easily one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The real reason why we need to see Loki again is because of the massive cliffhanger that was the end of Thor: The Dark World. As you may remember, it was revealed in the final minutes of that movie that the smiling trickster didn't die on Svartalfheim (as had been shown), and instead returned to Asgard to steal the throne from his adoptive father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins). The end of The Avengers: Age of Ultron showed Chris Hemsworth's Thor returning to his home realm, and surely he will discover what kind of hell Loki created in his absence.

All that being said, I honestly don't think fans should prepare to see Loki return to central villain form in Thor: Ragnarok. Instead, he'll probably be back in a strong supporting position while the role of "Big Bad" gets handed off to none other than Josh Brolin's Thanos. When we last saw Thor, he was going on a mission to learn more about the Infinity Stones, and the Tesseract (a.k.a. The Space Stone) is still parked in Odin's famed Treasure Room. These are both elements that could lead the Mad Titan to give Asgard a visit - and it's his potential presence that could create the apocalyptic feel hinted at in the film's title. Right now this is just an educated guess, but there is a good amount of evidence to support the theory.

Do you think Tom Hiddleston's Loki will be back for Thor: Ragnarok - or potentially sooner? Hit the comments section with your thoughts,.
