There are obviously a lot of movies out there competing for Oscar glory, from Ben Affleck's Argo to Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, but the campaign for Gus Van Sant's Promised Land has been quieter than just about all of them. The film will be getting a limited release on December 28th (in order to qualify for the Academy Awards a film must be given a release in Los Angeles County, California within the calendar year), and the marketing has been sparse, with the first trailer only arriving about a month ago (for comparison, the first trailer for Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty played online the first week of August).

Finally, though, things seem to finally be picking up. Entertainment Weekly has gotten its hands on the first two official stills from the movie, which highlight Matt Damon as well as co-star Rosemarie DeWitt. Check out one of the photos below and head over to the source to see the other.

Based on a script written by Damon and co-star John Krasinski, the film stars Damon as Steve Butler, an ace salesman working for a natural gas company trying to get people to sell him the drilling rights to their land. When the company wants to expand their business into a small rural town, Steve and his partner Sue (Francse McDormand) travel to try and work their magic, and while they think it will be an easy sell due to the town's recent financial hardships, they run into opposition from a grassroots campaign, led by a respected man in town (Krasinski). The supporting cast also includes Scoot McNairy, Titus Welliver, and Hal Holbrook. For more about Promised Land, head over to our Blend Film Database.
