A Mega-Franchise Is Bourne
The Bourne movies have been slick, smart, and a whole lot of fun. Even the excessive use of the shaky cam couldn’t kill the last one, The Bourne Supremacy. The third movie, based on the series of Bourne books by Robert Ludlum is coming soon, but it sounds like the series won’t be stopping there.
Instead, Bourne producer Frank Marshall told MTV that they’ll keep the franchise going for maybe as many as five movies, even though there are only three books in Robert Ludlum’s Bourne series. Ultimately though, the the decision is “up to Matt Damon.” I guess you can take that to mean the series will end whenever he or his audience gets bored with it. Whichever happens first.
Audience interest seems unlikely to wane any time soon. The third movie, The Bourne Ultimatum, starts shooting on August 1st, directed by Paul Greengrass. It’s based on the last of Ludlum’s books, and teams Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) up with a KGB agent after being targeted by an aged terrorist.
