The Nutcracker Ballet To Be Broadcast In Movie Theaters This December

The New York City Ballet is teaming up with Fathom Events to give ballet fans and those looking for a way to celebrate the holiday season with a bit of culture the opportunity to see George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. Select theaters will be airing a live broadcast of the NYC Ballet’s performance of the classic ballet for one night only this December.

The Nutcracker is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice,” and tells the story of a young girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince who battles a Mouse King. Whether or not you’ve ever seen the ballet, you may be familiar with the music, which is often played around the holidays.

Variety posted the news, which you can also find on Fathom’s website. On December 13th, select theaters will be hosting the live cinemacast of the New York City Ballet’s production of the classic holiday tale, The Nutcracker. The digital broadcast will take place Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00pm ET/5:00pm CT/7:30pm MT/7:30pm PT. At this point, it’s unknown exactly which venues are set to host the event, however Variety says about 530 have signed up already.

According to Fathom’s website, tickets go on sale on November 18th, at which point we should have a better idea of exactly how many theaters will have this available. If you’ve always wanted to see the production, this could be a much more affordable way to see the ballet and spend some quality time with the family during the holiday season.
