Universal Pictures' upcoming music-focused comedy Pitch Perfect has already started generating some buzz from its trailers. And those eagerly anticipating the film have less than a month to wait before it arrives in theaters. But those in select cities across North America may get to see it even sooner.

Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick as Beca, a college freshman who joins an all-girls a cappella singing group at her school called The Bellas, and helps them compete against the rival group on campus. Previously released trailers for the Jason Moore-directed film have given us an earful of some fun a cappella covers, and a few amusing moments involving Rebel Wilson.

The film was set for an October 5 release, but Deadline reported today that Universal Pictures is moving the release date up in an effort to build word-of-mouth interest for the film. The movie will be released in select theaters across North America on Friday, September 28. This move apparently follows some positive feedback from the early screenings they've done already.

The film got a bit of promotional time during last night's Video Music Awards on MTV. In addition to Rebel Wilson taking the stage to present (and flirt with The Wanted and show off her T-shirt bikini), this lip-dub video featuring the Pitch Perfect cast also aired:

As a fan of a cappella pop covers and funny females, the movie had me with the first trailer, but if increased word of mouth gets more attention to it, all the better.

In addition to Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, Pitch Perfect stars Adam DeVine, Anna Camp and Brittany Show. It releases in select theaters September 28. More information can be found in our Blend Film Database.
