Pre-production Artwork For Narnia's Dawn Treader

I’m a little surprised Disney is moving forward with the third movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This year’s installment, Prince Caspian, definitely didn’t live up to its predecessor’s box office numbers, which means making a third chapter becomes a very risky endeavor. Despite this, Disney does seem to be moving ahead with the third chapter, and apparently the Prince Caspian DVD includes a few sneak peeks at some of the movie’s pre-production artwork.

Film blog Film Chat noticed the pre-production material in one of the DVD’s featurettes and placed some screen shots on their site. From the images you can see an artistic rendering of Lucy making her way down the hallway of the magician’s house and a nice painting of the Dawn Treader itself. Then there are a few images of a dragon hovering over water, as evidenced by his shadow on the water’s surface, and a shot of the dragon’s head snapping at the camera from below the water.

I can’t say these images get me any more excited about another Narnia movie than the nice painting on the cover of the actual book does. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has always been where my interest in the series has fizzled out, and my interest in the movies didn’t even make it that far. Should Disney keep moving forward with the waning franchise, or should they call it quits after one hugely successful film and one mediocre sequel?
