Sir Sean Retires!

The original Jame Bond, Sean Connery has made the shock announcement that he is retiring from movies after becoming disillusioned with Hollywood.

In an interview with The New Zealand Herald he said he would need "a Mafia-like offer I couldn't refuse" if was to appear in any future productions.

Expanding on his statement he said, "I'm fed up with the idiots... the ever-widening gap between people who know how to make movies and the people who green-light the movies. I don't say they're all idiots. I'm just saying there's a lot of them that are very good at it."

It's no secret that Sir Sean has had a few run-ins with directors and producers over his last few projects and, at 74, the strains of carrying big movies must be taking their toll. I'd hate to see Sean retire fully from films, if he must cut back I'd prefer to see him take on more high-profile supporting or cameo roles similar to the likes of Paul Newman in Road To Perdition or take on smaller indie projects like many older actors are exploiting these days.

He may be a difficult man to work with on set, but it would be sad to see him leave movies completely, he is still one of the most charismatic screen presences around today.

But, as his publicist hinted recently, "He has no plans to do any more films. However, he did make a very famous film called Never Say Never Again."
