The Weekly Blend Audio contingent has been vocally furious about a Slap Shot remake, and they'll probably be no happier with the news that Dean Parisot, director of Fun and Dick and Jane, will be directing the thing. Sure, he also made the 1999 comedy Galaxy Quest, but he seems a little under-qualified to take over a beloved comedy and make it worth the remake.
Variety's article even mentions the online backlash to the notion of the remake, but then uses the example of The Longest Yard as a sports movie remake that managed to be the hit. But that's not the point! The point is to come up with original ideas rather than bastardize old ones! Doesn't anyone listen to our online rantings? Actually, never mind-- I don't think I want you to answer that.
