Smart People Join This Film

There are few actors more instantly likeable than Dennis Quaid. With a flash of his glistening smile, he can win over just about anyone in an audience. Needless to say, he is aging a lot better than ex-wife/plastic surgery nightmare Meg Ryan. And unlike her, he is still regularly making movies.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Quaid has joined the cast of Smart People, along with Rachel Weisz and Thomas Haden Church. The indie dramedy will reunite Church with his Sideways producer Michael London, and marks the feature debuts of director Noam Murro and screenwriter Mark Poirier.

In the film, Quaid plays a recently widowed professor who finds a new love (Weisz) and gets a surprise visit from his adopted brother (Church). On top of making room in his life for these folks, he has to try and keep his failing career from going completely down the toilet.

Smart People has been in the studio system for a while, so hopefully that’s not a sign of doom to come. It will begin production in Pittsburgh on November 6th.
