Through the Cracks

It’s been a long a wild week, so I wasn’t able to get to a lot of the news that occurred this week so I compiled them all together for this one big little wrap-up kinda deal. Enjoy.

Impossible Delay

The release date for the third installment in the Tom Cruise led spy series, Mission:Impossible 3, has been delayed 2 months. Rather than kick off the summer with the first weekend in May, Paramount instead opted to wait and place it in the 4th of July weekend spot. Spider-Man 2 made that similar move early on in it’s pre-production phase.

This move would pit Paramount and Ethan Hunt going head to head with 20th Century Fox and The Fantastic Four. M:I-3 will have the advantage opening on Wednesday June 29th while The Fantastic Four drops that Friday, July 1st. Look for both flicks next year.

Orange KONG-ty

Orange County stars Jack Black and Colin Hanks will re-unite. No there isn’t a sequel in the works. Hanks has joined the growing ensemble cast of Peter Jackson’s remake King Kong.

Hanks will play the production assistant of the adventurous filmmaker Carl Denham (Black). As well as re-teaming with Black, Tom’s little boy joins Andy Serkis, Adrien Brody, and Naomi Watts in the cast of King Kong. Look for it in theatres next Christmas.

Sequel of Rock?

While promoting his new film Before Sunset, director Richard Linklater spoke out about the possibilities of a sequel to the Jack Black comedy.

RL: I don't know. The producer said that he got a call from one of the higher-ups in the corporation that Monday morning at 9:00 after the weekend results: (imitates studio exec) "Sequel or series? What's it going to be?" It wasn't a given going into that I was making a movie that was going to be really successful. Jack hadn't necessarily opened a movie on his own, but I thought that if we pulled it off, it could be entertaining and have a wide appeal hopefully. It's nice when you have a pop culture moment and people go see it. It's not always a given. It was a lot of fun to work on, but I don't think there'll be a sequel actually, to answer your question. Maybe some things are better left alone.

Truer words have never been spoken. Linklater’s Before Sunset is in select theatres now.

Dukes of Lizard

Warner Brothers have found a director for their big screen adaption of The Dukes of Hazzard, Jay Chandrasekhar.

Chandrasekhar is more known for being the writer/direct/actor of the two Broken Lizard movies Club Dread and Super Troopers. If you’ve seen either of those movies, you immediately know where WB is going with this adaptation. The Dukes of Hazard will hit theatres some time next year.

Elektra Pic

20th Century Fox has just released this pic of Elektra from the Jennifer Garner led Daredevil spinoff, cleverly titled Elektra.

Standing in for Mark Stephen Johnson at the helm is director Rob Bowman, the cinematic genius behind Reign of Fire. In this flick Elektra is resurrected by the group of assassins that trained her, they are known as “The Order of the Hand”(insert masturbation joke here). She befriends the group and stands up to a bunch of ninjas. Or something to that effect. Look for Garner and Jason Isaacs in Elektra in 2005.
