Warner Bros. Taking The Bible To Space

There have been four films made about the Biblical couple Samson and Delilah, one of them way back in 1922. But none of them have told the story... in space! That's the fresh idea over at Warner Bros., where they've acquired a pitch called Samson that intends to tell the story in a futuristic setting.

Francis Lawrence, who made a mint for the studio with I Am Legend, will direct, with 8 Mile screenwriter Scott Silver handling the screenplay. Variety reports that WB beat out two other studios in a bidding battle for the pitch, which they're hoping will succeed based on a "big idea" concept-- maybe leaving them room to cut corners by not casting a star.

The story of Samson and Delilah is one of those Biblical tales that's full of weird details, about strongman Samson whose super-strength comes from his hair, and his wife Delilah who sells him out to the enemies. I'm guessing only the basic details will remain in the retelling, which means there's pretty much no way of predicting where this one will go. But hey, even though there are four previous movies on the topic, you can't call this one a remake! Score one for originality, sorta.
