Why Evil Dead 4 Is Still Possible, According To Bruce Campbell
Fans of the Evil Dead movie franchise were excited to learn that their favorite boomstick-wielding store clerk would finally be back on the TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead. But, does the existence of the TV show mean that we'll never see another Evil Dead movie? Bruce Campbell says that a movie is always going to be a possibility, as long as the franchise remains popular.
Bruce Campbell was at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend to promote the upcoming second season of Ash vs. Evil Dead and our own Nick Venable had a chance to talk, and get the greatest selfie ever taken, with the man himself. Nick asked Campbell if we might ever see a fourth movie in the Evil Dead series down the road. The man who played Ash says that the series could help boost the possibility of the movie, because the movies are what made the series happen.
While success has generally been a slow road for the Evil Dead series, it's certainly a place where they tend to end up. The first movie was put together on a shoestring budget, yet it became a cult horror hit. The pair of more comedic sequels that followed also found their audience, usually on TV or home video. The fact that over 20 years passed between the last movie, Army of Darkness, and the series, is a perfect example of how the popularity of the series has been incredibly consistent over time. The fact that people still cared enough to make the series happen is amazing. If people continue to care enough to watch the series for several years could certainly lead to another movie. Hopefully, it won't take another 20 years for that to happen.
It's certainly true that "success begets success." Hollywood seems increasingly afraid to take risks and try new things, so if they can look at something that is doing well, like a cable TV series, and use that to make a movie, there's a good chance that's exactly what will happen.
