Is James Gunn Hinting At A New Guardians 3 Character Or Fondly Remembering His VCR?

We're always on the look out for potential news about what's next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's possible we've found something, it's also possible James Gunn is just messing with us. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is a unique and interesting fellow, so it could be that when he posted the tweet below, he really was just reminiscing about an old VCR his family used to own. However, we couldn't help but notice the brand name of the VCR in the image, Quasar. It's a name that's familiar to Marvel Comics fans.

Quasar isn't simply the name of an electronics brand that made wood paneled VCRs. It's also the name of a powerful Marvel character who we have yet to see as part of the MCU. Is James Gunn's tweet really just a picture of a VCR or is it a hint of what might be coming in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The character has had dealings with the Guardians within the comics before, so it's certainly possible that he could do so again in a future movie. Also, interestingly, Quasar's power comes from a pair of Quantum Bands. The Quantum Realm was a concept introduced to the MCU in Ant-Man that we expect will become more important in Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as other future Marvel films. If the Quantum Bands are related to the Quantum Realm, then perhaps there really is a possible connection here.

Of course, it's also possible that it really is just a picture of a VCR. We know that James Gunn has a love for wood paneling in his design, as anybody who has seen the inside of the Milano can attest. Maybe he was just thinking about his old VCR. It's fairly impressive that he was able to find a photo of the exact same product. What are the odds of that?

A few commenters on James Gunn's Twitter feed have noticed the Quasar branding and made similar comments to us, so we're not entirely crazy or at the very least we're no less crazy than a few other people. For reference, here's a look at classic Marvel Quasar, in case we end up seeing him in a future movie.

Quasar

We're likely jumping to conclusions. Just because James Gunn posts something with a Quasar name doesn't mean the character is coming to the MCU. This is the same guy who the internet attached to a Tron sequel just because he had a prop in his office. This is probably another case of reading too much into a picture. Still, what if? What do you think? Is this an MCU hint or an old piece of electronics?
