New Deadpool 2 Image Shows The Return Of A Fan Favorite Character

While some critics are worried that the superhero genre will become saturated and stale due to superhero fatigue, there are certain films that are redefining the possibilities of the genre. Chief among them is Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, which was a critical darling, made tons of money, and proved that an R-Rated comic book movie could still be a success. Production for the highly anticipated sequel is currently underway, and Reynolds has been periodically posting images from the set, to the delight of fans. And the latest shows him filming with none other than Leslie Uggams, aka Blind Al. Check it out.

The roomies have been reunited, and you can almost hear the fanboys salivating over their impending banter and off color jokes. A big thanks to Ryan Reynolds for sharing his awesome pic on his Facebook.

Leslie Uggams' Blind Al was one of the most unexpectedly delightful aspects of the first Deadpool film. First showing up in a scene with Wade in the laundromat, Al would eventually take the psychotic hero under her wing as he planned his revenge against his captors, and his reunion with Vanessa. The duo's relationship mostly consisted of Al poking fun at Wade and calling him a dumbass. But it's not one sided, as the Merc with a Mouth did his fair share of drive-by farts and shenanigans with his baby hand.

But while Blind Al and Deadpool's relationship might just seem fun and frothy at the surface, it actually speaks to Wade Wilson's self-esteem issues and self hatred. Deadpool absolutely loathes his haggard appearance, which is why it took him so long to reunite with Vanessa. But Al's disability allows Wade to relax and have a safe haven. She can't see how messed up his skin is, so he can feel like the man he used to be before the experiments that gave him his powers.

I'm eager to see how Vanessa factors into Deadpool and Blind Al's living situation in Deadpool 2. While their bickering and hilarious relationship works for the pair, one has to assume that Vanessa will be around the apartment every now and then. And while Vanessa has been shown to keep up with Wade's trademark wit, it's unclear if Blind Al will want the leading lady around. She's already got a penchant for calling people names, and we've only seen her do this with people she actually likes. Then again, Wade might have moved out of Al's place to begin his new relationship with Vanessa, so Al may be flying solo in the sequel.

Alas, we'll just have to wait until Ryan Reynolds and company begins releasing more information about the plot of Deadpoool 2. But with San Diego Comic-Con starting in just a few days time, maybe we'll be treated to a teaser, announcement, or another short video like the "No Good Deed" one. We'll just have to wait an see.

Deadpool 2 will arrive in theaters on June 1, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
