Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery Wasn’t Invited To The Oscars

With the 2018 Oscar nominations now revealed, the race is on to see which film will walk away with Best Picture. Jordan Peele's Get Out is currently standing as one of the favorites to win big this year, but it looks like one key member of the cast was not even invited to the ceremony. That's right, folks; Lil Rel Howrey didn't get an invitation to this year' Academy Awards. The comedian opened up during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and explained:

Well, I thought I was. You know, we called today looking for my ticket. And they were like, 'You're not in the first group. So, the first tickets that they give out, I'm not on that list.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Lil Rel Howrey won't eventually get an invitation. As he pointed out in his remarks to Jimmy Kimmel he simply wasn't in the "first group" of invited members of the Get Out party. But considering the fact that his role as Rod is one of the main characters in the movie, it arguably seems somewhat bizarre to think that the comedian wasn't included in that group -- particularly when some have already taken to classifying it as a comedy through awards season.

It was a lucky break for Lil Rel Howrey to reveal his lack of an invitation to The Oscars on Jimmy Kimmel Live. After all, Kimmel is once again going to take on hosting duties, which means that he probably has the ability to pull some strings to get the comedian into the events. Kimmel even made a promise to try after Howrey explained that he had not been invited, so we will have to wait and see if the host can come through. Considering the sheer amount of cheers and applause that Kimmel received when he told Howrey that he would get him in, it seems clear that there's a lot of fan enthusiasm for it to happen.

It will probably be a night to remember for Lil Rel Howrey if he does manage to get into The Academy Awards this year. The Best Picture category is fairly stacked, but Get Out definitely seems to have a good chance of walking away with Oscar gold this year. Whether or not that will actually happen remains to be seen, but it's going to prove fascinating to watch all nominees duke it out.

With all of that said, make sure to catch The Academy Awards when the ceremony airs on Sunday, March 4 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
