Jeep Made A Jurassic Park Super Bowl Commercial And It's Great

If you can't take down a tyrannosaurus rex, then your next best option is to outrun it. That's what some of the protagonists in Jurassic Park had to do, and they were fortunately able to do so in a Jeep. Now Dr. Ian Malcolm, one of the characters who was in that Jeep over 20 years ago, finds himself in a similar predicament... sort of. Check out the Jurassic Park-themed Jeep ad that just aired at the Super Bowl.

The last time Ian Malcom found himself in a Jeep with a dinosaur on his tail, he was in the back giving some pretty obvious advice: must drive faster. In this scenario, he gets to be behind the wheel and see if his own driving skills are enough to ensure that the T-rex doesn't tear him to pieces. I don't think rolling up the window is going to help much against that monstrosity, but it doesn't hurt. Fortunately, Ian eventually decides that rather than outrace the T-rex, he'll just outmaneuver it instead. That pays off, as the gigantic dinosaur gets to continue rampaging and Ian gets to live another day.

But as it turns out, Dr. Ian Malcolm was never actually in any danger. This was just an elaborate test drive he'd imagined while visiting his local Jeep dealership. I can't say for certain, but I suspect Ian will be driving home in a 2018 Jeep Wrangler after envisioning how it would do against a T-rex. That kind of car held up well two decades ago on Isla Nublar, so it never hurts to have a significantly spruced-up model on hand on the off chance that prehistoric creatures are chasing you.

Jurassic Park fans last saw Ian Malcolm in 1997's The Lost World, but we'll soon see Jeff Goldblum reprise the chaotician in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. However, the Ian in this Jeep looks closer to how he did in 1993 with the clean-shaven face and leather jacket, was opposed to how he'll look in the fifth Jurassic Park franchise installment with the beard and nice black suit. It is important to note, though, that Ian's role will be relatively minor, as Fallen Kingdom will be focusing on Chris Pratt's Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing and a lot of new faces trying to evacuate the dinosaurs off Isla Nublar so they aren't all killed by an erupting volcano. Still, it will be nice to see another familiar face from the original Jurassic Park trilogy appear in Fallen Kingdom, as this movie will also see the return of B.D Wong as Dr. Henry Wu.

The next chapter of the Jurassic Park saga, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, hits theaters on June 22. To find out what else is being theatrically released this year, look through our 2018 premiere schedule.
