Rumors Are Swirling About An Original Star Wars Trilogy Character Appearing In Solo Thanks To A New Toy

Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi

We're living in a world obsessed with spoilers. Major properties like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have a ton of anticipation and excitement behind them, and the idea of having each blockbuster's contents being spoiled is enough to send even the most casual fans into a fit of anger. While Disney's projects are famously tight lipped pre-release, the latest source for spoilers in the past few years have actually been from merchandise. Play sets, LEGOs, and Funko Pops will sometimes reveal characters and scenes before a film's release, and now it looks like that may be the case with Solo: A Star Wars Story. New merchandise is coming in, which may indicate that fan favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett could be popping up in the standalone film.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of fanboys everywhere applauding. While Boba Fett isn't the most dynamic character in the galaxy far far away, his armor and mystery have kept him at the top of the franchise for decades. This report, which is far from official, indicates that Funko Pop will be releasing a Solo two-pack with Chewbacca and Bobba Fett. Obviously Fett would only be included if he was a character in the movie, so Star Wars fans are getting seriously amped up by this news.

Of course, this isn't necessarily confirmation of Bobba Fett's appearance in Solo. The report from PopVinyls.com don't include any photos of the merchandise, so there isn't any physical proof of Boba's inclusion. That being said, members of the community will no doubt be waiting with bated breathe until the character is either confirmed or denied in a more concrete form.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will continue exploring the timeframe between the prequel trilogy and A New Hope. In this way, Boba Fett's inclusion makes perfect sense, as plenty of favorites from George Lucas' original trio of films will be popping up throughout the course of the standalone film. We could meet a version of Boba who is also a bit younger than he ended up being during his debut in Empire Strikes Back. A standalone film for Boba Fett has been rumored for years, so perhaps this is Lucasfilm's way of expanding the character in another way.

Boba Fett was shown as a young boy in the prequel trilogy, revealed to be a clone of his father, Jango. Poor Boba's watched as his father was decapitated in front of his eyes by Mace Windu in Attack of the Clones. Fans would definitely love to see the character pop back up, especially if his backstory will be filled in. Solo promises a more intimate look into the psyche of Han, Lando, and Chewie, so it would be great to add even more Star Wars legends to the mix. We'll just have to wait and see if Boba ends up officially confirmed for the standalone movie.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will arrive in theaters on May 25, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
