There's Apparently Way More Coming In The Kingsman Universe

Taron Egerton Kingsman: The Secret Service

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a smash hit that spawned a big sequel last year, and while another movie was always a strong possibility, it turns out we're going to get a lot more Kingsman than that. Matthew Vaughn, who wrote and directed the two Kingsman films, is setting up a brand new studio and is planning at least three more movies as well as a limited run TV series that will all be associated with the Kingsman franchise.

The first film is the very much expected sequel to the two existing Kingsman movies, which will see the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship. However, beyond that, Vaughn is also planning a pair of spinoff movies. The first spinoff, which already has a title, Kingsman: The Great Game, is scheduled to shoot back-to-back with Kingsman 3 and would follow the spy organization in the early 1900s. The second spinoff would focus on the Statesman organization, the American counterpart to the Kingsman, that was introduced in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and would follow the characters played by Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Halle Berry.

Empire reports that an eight-hour Kingsman TV series is also planned, though there are no details as to exactly what characters or time period it plans to cover.

Needless to say, this is a lot more Kingsman than we were expecting. A third movie is certainly no surprise, if only for the reason that no franchise stops after two films unless it's forced to do so. The potential for a Statesman spinoff was certainly also a possibility, Kingsman: The Golden Circle seemed to exist as a backdoor for the spinoff in the first place. However, the third movie and the TV series are entirely new ideas, and one has to assume that if either are hits, more will follow in short order.

While we might not have expected so much more Kingsman material to be coming, it's probably not a huge shock when you look at the numbers. While Kingsman: The Golden Circle didn't quite as well at the box office as its predecessor, the drop off was minimal, showing that the audience for the first mostly came back for the second, which means there's a good chance that audience will continue to return. Although, one assumes there has to a point when the audience will get tired. With so many new Kingsman projects on the way, we may learn what that point is very soon.

Exactly when any of this new material is planned to arrive isn't clear at this point. No release dates have been announced. However, if the shooting schedule for two movies to be done back-to-back is already being put together, expect to hear more about Kingsman 3 and Kingsman: The Great Game fairly soon.
