Looks Like The LEGO Batman Movie 2 Is Happening

The Caped Crusader in The LEGO Batman Movie

While we continue to wait for the DCEU to figure out what it is doing with Batman in the live-action realm, Warner Bros. actually put out a great movie about the Caped Crusader last year: The LEGO Batman Movie. Now it seems that the first Batman franchise we'll be getting post-Christopher Nolan will be in the animated realm, because it looks like The LEGO Batman Movie 2 is happening. Take a look:

There you have it, LEGO Batman fans. According to The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay, not only is The LEGO Batman 2 happening, but it is actually in the works at this very moment. We'll have to wait for confirmation from Warner Bros. to make it official, but things look good for more hilarious animated Batman adventures in the future.

It's always fun when one of the first real hints we have that a movie is happening isn't some casting news or formal announcement, but a simple social media interaction like this one. Here, someone reached out to Chris McKay on Twitter asking if there would be a sequel, and boom, we find out that they're working on it.

Even though we can now look forward to a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie, we don't yet know when the sequel will arrive. However, for those looking forward to seeing more of Will Arnett's Dark Knight as soon as possible, he will be appearing in next year's The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.

And if Chris McKay's tweet about Batman being "all over" that movie is any indication, there will be plenty of that fan favorite character to enjoy in that upcoming sequel.

Will Arnett's Batman was one of the breakout characters of the original The LEGO Movie and his own spinoff really got the character, while giving us a hilarious Batman that we don't ever see in the darker live-action takes.

As far as where The LEGO Batman Movie 2 could go, Chris McKay offered no details. The first film ended with Will Arnett's Bruce Wayne becoming less selfish and realizing that he doesn't have to do everything alone. Although he banished the Phantom Zone villains back to whence they came, Joker and the rest of the villainy of Gotham City escaped.

This time around with the Bat-Family on his side, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Batman's rogues gallery come back for another round. You can also bet that there will be more irreverent comedy and tons of references to the actual canon of the character and to the wider comic book movie universe.

You can see LEGO Batman in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, opening in theaters on February 8, 2019. Check out our 2019 release schedule to see all of the big movies coming next year, and stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest on The LEGO Batman Movie 2 and all your movie news.
