Though he is relatively new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joining the scene in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has seen his fair share of costumes. Some are incredibly basic, like the goggles and sweatshirt that make up his homemade outfit. Some are incredibly tricked out, like the Iron Spider suit that has a Kill Mode built in.
Dubbed the “Upgraded Suit” on the Spider-Man Twitter page, this will be the red-and-black outfit that we see Spidey wearing during what looks to be a confrontation on the Thames River in London. According to this short video, the modifications included in this suit are Web Sings and a Glide Stabilizer. But it’s the third one that has me most excited, as a die-hard Spider-Man fan.
“Created by Peter Parker” is the top description on the new suit, and that’s important. In the MCU, since he joined in Civil War, Spider-Man has been benefitting from suits designed and enhanced by Tony Stark’s tech. Even the suit he wore for the bulk of Spider-Man: Homecoming – the one with an A.I. dubbed “Karen” – has been labeled the Stark Suit and it delivered plenty of bells and whistles.
From there, Peter wore the Iron Spider suit for both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and they were characterized in battle by the additional metallic spider arms that sprung from his back and helped him in combat.
All of this was cool, but part of me appreciates when Peter designs his own suits. That was always a draw of Peter when he was a teenage crime-fighter, having to learn how to sew up his ripped suit, or create original modifications to assist in taking down foes like Electro or The Vulture. The Stark Suit gave Peter an unfair advantage in his formative MCU days, and the idea that he’ll design this suit to wear in battle against the Elementals gets me even more excited for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
This suit is on display in the second full trailer, which we will share below:
And the “Upgraded Suit” is one of FOUR suits that we have seen in the Spider-Man: Far From Home marketing. Peter (Tom Holland) is still wearing the Iron Spider suit as he mourns Tony Stark’s death. He’s wearing the Stark suit as he swings through Manhattan, and he will receive the Stealth Suit from Nick Fury so he can go on missions in Europe and not tip off to his friends what his secret identity might be.
Finally, there’s the new black and red suit, which we know he will be wearing as he swings through New York City holding MJ (Zendaya) at a part of the movie we can’t quite determine. Early? Late? We will know for sure when Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 2.
