Kevin Smith Knows Who The Suicide Squad's Villain Is And He's Happy To Tease Us About It

The original Suicide Squad was a massive box office hit and with the addition of Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn to the upcoming sequel, the new film is quite highly anticipated. There's a lot that we don't know about the new movie, but Kevin Smith apparently has some inside information about the project that has him quite excited. He knows who the villain is.

During a recent recording of the Fatman Beyond podcast, Kevin Smith was discussing with the audience and his co-host Marc Bernardin about the importance of super hero movie villains, when done right, and he came very close to revealing the name of the villain for the Suicide Squad sequel. While he didn't spill the beans, he assured the audience that the choice was a good one. According to Smith...

Does anybody know who the villain is, for Suicide Squad? Alright, I do, and I just can't say it then. Because I thought everybody knew and I was about to say... I might have heard that privately. I'm not gonna spill it, but if it is what I heard, it is fucking phenomenal, and boy is it in the right hands with James Gunn.

The new Suicide Squad team that we meet in the sequel will be largely made up of new characters. Only Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang are expected to return. Other characters, not part of the actual team, will also be back. Most of the reported characters have been filled in with which character they're playing, though few if any have been confirmed. We haven't heard much of anything about who the new team will go up against, or who might be playing that role.

Of course, while Smith says that he knows who the villain is, and that fans will love it, that information is only useful if we think it's real. Even Smith himself, at first, is open the possibility that what he knows might not be entirely accurate. However, then Smith remembers where he got his info and it does seem on the level, since it came directly from another cast member. Smith goes on...

We all know Dave Dastmalchian, who's a friend of the show, and he's in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as well. Dave, we know he's been cast in The Suicide Squad movie. Did they announce who he's playing? They did, ok, so he's playing Polka Dot Man. So, I believe Dave told me who the villain was, with like, 'you can't fucking say anything.' I was like. 'I won't.' He was like 'don't accidentally say it at Fatman Beyond.' I was like, [looking nervous] 'I won't.' That's where I got it. He's legit.

It seems pretty certain that unless Dave Dastmalchian was just messing with Kevin Smith, the writer and director does in fact know who the big bad of the Suicide Squad sequel will be. It seems the character is a good one. Of course, that just means that the part also needs to be written and cast well, but with James Gunn handling most of that, it seems quite likely everything will come together.

The next Suicide Squad movie is set for release in August of 2021.
