The Eternals Stars Lovingly Trash Talk The Avengers: 'We Could Destroy Them'

Hulk vs The Eternals

Even though it was just announced, The Eternals is already generating quite a buzz (surprising, considering how few fans actually know of them). Between the announcement that Kit Harington and Angelina Jolie are set to star in the film, the film is already packed tight with big-name stars. It's an exciting new team and story that could be taken in many different directions or pitted against a vast number of foes. But what if the Avengers joined the ranks of enemies in some capacity? As it turns out, some of the actors and actresses in The Eternals think they could not only take on the Avengers, but take them on and destroy them.

In a D23 interview, the stars of the upcoming film said, with confidence, that the Eternals would absolutely crush Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Yes, even Captain Marvel (my words, not theirs).

Variety mentioned Marvel has the Guardians and the Avengers, then asked why the Eternals are the superhero team to beat. Brian Tyree Henry, who plays the super fast, super strong Eternal Phastos in the film, answered:

It's in the title, we're eternal. That's exactly it. We're here to save humanity. We built humanity and we're here to save humanity because, you know, sometimes in this world we live in, things don't always go as planned. And we are gods, in a way.

He's kind of correct. The Eternals were created by the Celestials, who came to Earth millions of years ago and experimented with early humans. So while they aren't technically gods, they are an offshoot of evolution that created sentient life on Earth. So I guess to the Avengers they are gods but in the grand scheme of things they're nothing compared to the Celestials. But I think Henry meant the former, not the latter. Which makes way more sense.

Kumail Nanjiani portrays Kingo Sunen, a master swordsman and Eternal who wields a sword forged by the aforementioned Phastos. For those unfamiliar with him, he's a super cool character. A major player in the film, Nanjiani had his own thoughts on the Eternals' power.

Without us, there would be no Avengers. There would be no Guardians of the Galaxy. There would be no galaxy. So you're welcome, Chris Pratt's character.

Everyone laughed at that, but the Variety reporter said she sensed an Avengers/Eternals throwdown. So Brian Tyree Henry responded:

No, no, no, we're gods, if they want to throw down they wouldn't win. But it's all good. Not trying to start no beef, no street beef but...

Before Henry could go any further, Nanjiani cut him off, saying matter-of-factly:

But we would destroy them.

There you have it, folks. Looks like the mighty Avengers would have a lot to worry about if they ever angered these even mightier beings. That would be amazing to watch, honestly. For now, just take another look at the Eternals cast at D23:
