Marvel's upcoming Phase Four is packed with star power, namely with the casting of 2020's Eternals, which includes Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Brian Tyree Henry already attached to the cast. It's now been announced that another Game of Thrones alum is joining the cosmic epic. Kit Harington will be playing Dane Whitman a.k.a. Black Knight.

At D23’s studio panel for their upcoming movie projects, Marvel’s Eternals cast took the stage and it was announced Kit Harington would be joining the ensemble as non-Eternal Black Knight. Dane Whitman, who was created in 1955 by Stan Lee, inherits his uncle’s castle and wields the powerful and ancient Ebony Blade, finding roots in the world of King Arthur and Merlin of Camelot.

Considering Eternals is a story that "spans tens of thousands of years," it makes sense for a character such as Black Knight to find its way into the epic. Captain Marvel’s Gemma Chan was also announced to be playing a new Marvel character and Eternals member, Sersi. Dunkirk’s Barry Keoghan was also cast as Druig in the film. Kit Harington was not on hand at D23, but the main cast appeared on stage, along with first looks at their characters. Check it out:

The brief video from Marvel Studios shows Gemma Chan’s Sersei, Barry Keoghan’s Druig, Angelina Jolie’s blonde-haired Thena, Dong-seok Ma’s Gilgamesh, Lia McHugh’s Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, and Richard Madden’s Ikaris. The above look and the new casting information was all the audience was treated to at the panel in regards to Eternals, but it’s certainly some more exciting news for Marvel’s Phase Four.

Eternals will be the second entry to MCU’s Phase Four, coming to theaters on November 6, 2020 after Black Widow starts things off on May 1, 2020. The movie will introduce some less familiar material to the big screen. Eternals follows a team of cosmic beings who band together to protect Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants. Eternals have superhuman abilities who can live for thousands of years and share a mental bond.

Game of Thrones fans can not only rejoice in getting to see Kit Harington in another high-profile role following the finale of the long-running HBO series this summer, but he’ll also be reuniting with his brother Robb Stark, with Richard Madden already set to star as Ikaris, one of the most powerful of the Eternals.

Kit Harington joining the universe as non-Eternal Black Knight in the Eternals is a peculiar choice. He was speculated to be cast as Moon Knight or Wolverine yesterday, when word of his name and the MCU were teased to be announced. Stay tuned with CinemaBlend as more D23 and Eternals information comes our way!
