See What Jonah Hill Could Look Like As The Batman's Penguin

Jonah Hil in War Dogs

With The Batman gearing up to begin shooting sometime early next year, news is beginning to drop about who will join Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader in the cast of Matt Reeves’ film. The latest news is that Jonah Hill may join the film as a member of Batman’s rogues gallery, with The Riddler and The Penguin seeming to be the most likely candidates. Whenever there’s casting news or rumors for a comic book movie, you can count on BossLogic to show what that actor could look like in character. Here he weighs in on who Jonah Hill should play in The Batman, casting his vote for Oswald Cobblepot, otherwise known as The Penguin. BossLogic makes his case with a piece of fan art showing Jonah Hill as we’ve never seen him.

This interpretation imagines Jonah Hill with all of the recognizable elements of The Penguin character. He’s got the top hat, a large fur coat and a monocle. He also has the cold purple lips similar to what Danny DeVito had when he played the character in Batman Returns. And if Matt Reeves’ film takes a similar approach to The Penguin, Jonah Hill would have to be donning a serious prosthetic for his nose.

We generally think of The Penguin as an older character, but Jonah Hill’s Penguin would be a younger version of the character, close in age to Robert Pattinson’s Batman. You see some of that youth in this design, with the flannel shirt and the gold chain, indicating that this Oswald Cobblepot may be a cocky upstart that sees himself as an OG.

Overall, the Penguin in this fan art is both grim and serious, but also inscrutable, not letting on how dangerous he really is. If he does wind up playing The Penguin, this fan art shows one possibility as to what Jonah Hill could look in character. Although with the reports that The Batman will be a grounded approach to the Dark Knight, I wonder if The Penguin will really be rocking a top hat and monocle.

Jonah Hill certainly has the acting chops to play whatever villain he is cast as. Some reports peg him as The Riddler. Edward Nygma, who is known as a playful trickster, would be more in line with what we are used to seeing from Jonah Hill whereas The Penguin might be more of the left field choice for the actor and perhaps because of that, more interesting.

Ultimately it will depend on what Matt Reeves has in mind for how he wants to depict these characters and who fits best in those roles. Speaking of other roles, it has also been reported recently that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in The Batman as Commissioner Gordon.

The Batman opens in theaters on June 25, 2021. For movies arriving just a bit sooner, check out our 2019 Release Schedule.
