Fast And Furious 9 Is Going Old School For Mia Toretto In The Best Way

The Fast and the Furious 2001 Jordana Brewster Mia Toretto

Nineteen years. Nineteen years will have passed between The Fast and the Furious coming out in 2001 to launch the franchise and 9 arriving in theaters in May 2020. That's not even the end of the franchise, Fast 10 is already in the works. But Jordana Brewster got fans thinking about the first movie with her recent comments on Mia Toretto in Fast 9.

Mia is Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) sister and she's still in a relationship with Brian O'Connor, even after the death of actor Paul Walker. Mia was missing from The Fate of the Furious, but fans are hoping Brewster's return as Mia in Fast and Furious 9 also gives us an update on Brian, who is still alive in the story. Maybe we'll even see him through the return of Paul Walker's brother Cody? He was seen with Vin Diesel on set.

Whatever else happens in Fast & Furious 9, Jordana Brewster is excited to get back in action -- literally, to get back into the action. Mia has two children with Brian, but she's also a fast-driving Toretto herself, and she's about to get her Toretto on once again.

Here's what Vin Diesel and Jordana Brewster said in a recent video Vin shared toward the end of filming for Fast & Furious 9:

Vin Diesel: Week 14, Fast 9, we're on the final leg.Jordana Brewster: And it's bittersweet 'cause I love this so much. It's home.Vin Diesel: It's been a great experience. As you know, I'm with my sister on and off screen, who I must say got her Toretto on today.Jordana Brewster: I did. I finally got to, like -- you know what, I feel like in the first one Mia was tough and ballsy and we got back to that.Vin Diesel: Yes, we did. Yes, we did.

I'm excited to see Mia get her Toretto on in an old school way, 19 years after we first met her. It makes me think of her early days with Brian. Do you remember their dinner-and-driving scene back in the 2001 movie?

Good times! Also bittersweet times to look back on, knowing what would happen to Paul Walker in 2013.

I do wonder if Jordana Brewster's Mia is getting more to do because of Michelle Rodriguez speaking out for the women of the Fast franchise. Speaking out can be a fast ticket to backlash, but it does seem to have worked for Brewster, who is happy to have more to do in this movie. Rodriguez is also back in action as Letty, and she has posed with Vin Diesel in Fast 9 photos and videos from set.

Vin Diesel has been working hard promoting Fast & Furious 9 with regular set updates from video. He had a great one with Helen Mirren not too long ago:

Fast & Furious 9 will also star Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, John Cena, and Michael Rooker. Once Fast 9 is finished filming, it'll go into post-production for its currently scheduled release in theaters on May 22, 2020.
