John Cena Has Wrapped On Fast And Furious 9, According To Vin Diesel

John Cena in Bumblebee

The next Fast & Furious movie is currently filming and, while a lot of the details are obviously been kept under wraps, the biggest piece of news for Fast & Furious 9 is the John Cena has joined the cast. As expected, we know essentially nothing about what character Cena is playing or how that character fits into the story, but whatever Cena has brought to the production, he has now left it all on screen. John Cena has completed his work on the new movie.

The announcement of John Cena leaving the set came via Vin Diesel's Instagram, where, with Cena standing behind him, Diesel announced the departure, saying...

Week 16, Fast 9 and it truly is as Jordana [Brewster] says a bittersweet moment because someone who’ve I’ve had the great pleasure of working with, John Cena, is finally filming his last day.

16 weeks is a lot of weeks and if John Cena has been there the whole time, as Vin Diesel is implying with "finally,," then we can confirm that Cena's role is a significant one. Is he a hero or a villain? We have no idea. If he's one of the good guys then he's probably a new member of the "family," If he's a bad guy then he must be a significant one if he's been shooting for 16 weeks.

Of course, the fact that Cena is done after 16 weeks but filming hasn't wrapped entirely means that some of the crew still has more to do.

Vin Diesel says here that he's had the "great pleasure" of working with Cena, but he doesn't stop there. He continues to heap praise on Cena as an actor as well as the character that he plays in the movie. He tells his Instagram followers that fans will be "blown away" and "ecstatic" when they see what John Cena does in this movie. He's selling this hard.

The franchise promotes the idea that the family dynamic of the characters also exists among the actors -- or at least most of them -- and it sounds like John Cena has officially joined the behind-the-scenes family. With at least one more of the movies planned, it seems likely we could see Cena return for Fast & Furious 10.

Of course, the Fast and Furious franchise never does anything small, so it shouldn't be all that shocking that John Cena is being hyped to the moon. The franchise has been the home to some pretty epic moments over the years. I'm sure John Cena will have some great stunt moments of his own in the new film. I would suggest he could jump off a moving tank, or physically divert a torpedo, but that's all been done before.

Fans of the Fast & Furious and fans of John Cena likely have a lot to look forward to with Fast 9. It sounds like it's going to be pretty epic. We'll get to see it all when Fast 9 hits theaters in may of 2020.
