There’s Another Actor Campaigning To Play John Stewart In DC’s Green Lantern Corps.

Green Lantern Corps full corps lineup in the depths of space

While Warner Bros’ DC reboot Green Lantern Corps. is in some rather early stages of development, there’s certainly no shortage of competition for the potential role of John Stewart. Previously, we’ve seen not only Fast and Furious franchise star Tyrese Gibson but also actor, and previous candidate for the role Common both throw their hats into the proverbial ring. Now, a new challenger has entered the battle, and as you’ll see below, Michael Jai White is pleased that fans have started to hope he’ll play the role of Stewart in a major motion picture:

This piece of fan art is even cooler when you consider that the artist in question included White’s wife, actor Gillian White, as Vixen-- a historically recognized love interest for John Stewart. Someone’s all in on John and Vixen coming to the silver screen, and Michael Jai White is co-signing the campaign.

Michael Jai White is actually the fourth contender we’ve heard in the running for Green Lantern Corps.’ role of John Stewart, as in addition to Gibson and Common’s bids we’ve seen American Gods star Ricky Whittle actually admit that he’s had talks with DC and Warner Bros about the role. For a project that’s hotly anticipated, but still very much in flux, this is still a pretty big competition to keep a watch on.

As the fortunes of the DC Extended Universe expand and evolve, there’s no telling where Green Lantern Corps. fits into the plans. After all, they've changed drastically since the DC Extended Universe first put down stakes and focused everything around the potential success of Justice League. With Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Batman representing the way forward, there’s certainly plenty of room for writer Geoff Johns’ big screen adaptation to fit into the fold and create a new constellation of stars in DC’s universe, leading to something huge in the future.

Of course, those sorts of lofty plans are best taken one day at a time. While this Instagram post from Michael Jai White is a sign of intent and interest in John Stewart’s role, we’re not even sure if Green Lantern Corps. will use him or Hal Jordan to represent its future. Though there’s certainly no shame in hoping that both heroes will be used, so as to give the audiences double the thrills and excitement for their box office dollar. In which case, the search for a new Hal to team up with John is going to be quite interesting.

Green Lantern Corps. has no new release date set just yet, but as soon as any major updates are to be had we’ll report them here at CinemaBlend. In the meantime, you can take a look at what’s coming in the rest of 2019’s box office calendar, as well as what’s intended to debut in 2020, in the respective release schedules for those specific years.
