Black Friday Entertainment Deals FAQ
When Is Black Friday 2025?
This year, Black Friday will fall on November 28. As ever, it follows the day after US Thanksgiving, which takes place on the fourth Thursday of the month. That said, Black Friday deals have already begun to launch, with all the biggest retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, and Best Buy, as well as the most popular streaming services getting involved earlier and earlier every year. We expect to see deals starting as early as next week.
What stores have Black Friday sales?
Almost all major retailers, both digital and brick-and-mortar, will have huge deals and discounts for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Of course the major players like Amazon, Apple, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart will offer arguably their lowest prices and best deals of the year, but don't forget about third party storefronts on Amazon. We're also expecting some of the best streaming services to offer huge discounts as well, so be sure to check back as new deals drop.
What Are Some Tips For Shopping Black Friday 2025?
1. Start shopping early
While many deals won't be live until Friday, November 28th, there are still tons of deals that will be going on all throughout November, so, the earlier you start the more deals you can find!
2. Check multiple sites
All the big retail players will be in the game for Black Friday. Make sure to shop around on sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and more to make sure you find the best price available.
3. Set up Amazon notifications
The Amazon mobile app has a great feature that allows users to be notified when specific items go on sale. In the app, it's as simple as going to your account, clicking the Settings wheel> Notifications > Deals and recommendations > Select what kinds of notifications you want to receive from the app. You can download the app for free on iOS and Android.
4. Use Tools To Help You Shop
Since you're already shopping online, you might as well continue to take advantage of the tech. There are price tracker and comparison tools like CamelCamelCamel and Honey that can aid in finding you the best deals, tracking the history of a product's price fluctuations, and sending you alerts when the price drops below a certain threshold.
Why are they called "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday?"
In 1869, investors Jay Gould and Jim Fisk drove the price of gold up, causing the market to crash. The term "Black Friday" was coined to describe that dark day on September 24th, and was then subsequently used to describe other bad situations. Flash forward to 1950's Philadelphia where police were calling the influx of shoppers who poured into the city the day after Thanksgiving, which they dubbed "Black Friday," connecting the term to the shopping event. Due to the negative connottion associated with the the term, the event would go through a failed name change, the short lived "Big Friday."
The holiday continued to grow throughout the rest of the century and into the early 2000s when the National Retail Federation introduced "Cyber Monday" due to the sharp increase in online traffic and revenue on the Monday that followed Black Friday. Since the shift from mainly in-person sales to digital sales, the "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" terms are now used to describe huge discounts and deals throughout the month of November, while officially still remaining on the Friday after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and the following Monday.
