Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen may be the star of The Flash, but this movie is also serving as a platform for not one, but at least two versions of Batman to shine. Along with Michael Keaton reprising his incarnation of Bruce Wayne, Ben Affleck will be back as the DC Extended Universe’s version of the character, who’s already fought the forces of evil alongside Flash in Justice League/Zack Snyder’s Justice League. And with a new Batfleck outing comes new toys, as he’ll be behind the wheel of a new ride.
The Flash is currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and thanks to journalist David Pratt, we have footage of a stunt double wearing the Ben Affleck Batman suit driving down the street on the Batcycle, a vehicle that hasn’t been seen in the DCEU until now. Take a look!
While the Batmobile is Batman’s most popular form of ground transportation, Gotham City’s Dark Knight has frequently broken out the Batcycle in various media since it was introduced in the comics in 1956. Considering that both versions of Justice League saw Batfleck’s Batmobile being destroyed, it’s unclear if he’s using the Batcycle as his replacement vehicle while his trusty car is being repaired, or if he’s on a mission that required the maneuverability of his spruced-up motorcycle. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how this Batcycle compares to the last version of the vehicle we saw in live-action film, the Bat-Pod from The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
Following the release of Justice League’s theatrical cut in late 2017, and having already bowed out of starring in a solo Batman movie, it didn’t look like Ben Affleck would ever don the cape and cowl again. Then in August 2020, it was announced that Affleck would take part in The Flash, with director Andy Muschietti describing him as a “very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie” and noting how both Bruce Wayne and Barry Allen have the shared experience of losing their mothers to murder. Affleck’s participation in The Flash comes after he shot new scenes for Zack Snyder’s Justice League last fall.
Loosely inspired by the Flashpoint storyline, The Flash will see Barry Allen traveling to other realities in the DC multiverse, one of which contains Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne, who we haven’t seen since 1992’s Batman Returns. As such, it’s unclear just how much screen time Ben Affleck’s Batman will have in the Scarlet Speedster’s solo movie, although thanks to this Batcycle footage, at least we’ll see him in action for a bit as a superhero rather than just appearing in his civilian guise. It also remains to be seen if The Flash will mark Affleck’s true swan song as Batman, especially if the rumors about Keaton sticking around are true, not to mention Robert Pattinson now leading his own Batman film series.
Along with the aforementioned actors, The Flash’s cast includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen (taking over the role from Billy Crudup), Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Ian Loh as a younger Barry Allen, along with Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in undisclosed roles. This DCEU movie races into theaters on November 4, 2022, so as more updates concerning its progress come in, we’ll let you know.
Before The Flash’s arrival, you can see Ezra Miller reprising Credence Barebone in Fantastic Beasts 3 on July 15, 2022, while Ben Affleck will next be seen in The Last Duel, which is out on October 15.
