It's no secret that when it comes to cosmetics, Kylie Jenner is the reigning queen, but she might be facing some competition soon, and from within her own family! Yup, apparently Kylie's brother-in-law Kanye West is preparing to launch a make-up line of his own. It's the war for Kim Kardashian's make-up kit.
Apparently, Kanye West has just filed legal documents announcing his intention to develop a cosmetics line, TMZ reported. The line of make-up, lotions, perfume, and other cosmetics will be called DONDA, after West's mother who died of heart disease back in 2007. This pursuit of a cosmetics line isn't exactly coming out of left field --- West has immersed himself in the fashion world over the past few years, having designed five of his own clothing lines. The rapper has also been open about his desire to expand his brand beyond just music and into various fields. A year ago, West tweeted a chart outlining his plans for his DONDA brand, which showed he had aspirations to create a cosmetics line, along with a number of projects relating to marketing, hospitality, management, and even medical research!
Of course, the Kardashian-Jenner most associated with cosmetics these days is Kanye West's sister-in-law Kylie Jenner, who has quickly developed an intensely popular following after launching her line of lip kits in 2016. Though Jenner first rose to fame as a reality star on her family's series Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she's arguably now best known for her cosmetics line and marketing of it. Just two weeks ago, Jenner launched a pop up shop in New York and people camped out for three days in order to snag her fast-selling lip kits, PEOPLE reported.
This isn't the first time that Kanye West has butted heads with Kylie Jenner in the realm of fashion. Last year, West ranted about how displeased he was that Jenner signed on to become a spokesperson for Puma, tweeting statements like "there will never be a Kylie Puma anything" and posting a crying Kimoji when Jenner confirmed the partnership.
Though Kanye West has filed his legal docs for a DONDA cosmetics line, that doesn't mean it's going to be happening anytime soon. Apparently, West only filed the paperwork in case something develops down the line, so it sounds like it's not the first thing on his priorities list at the moment. Still, it seems clear that Kylie Jenner's lip kit line isn't going to be going away anytime soon, so when West finally does release his cosmetics line it could cause a bit of a rift in the famous family's business ventures. The real test is going to be which lip liner Kim Kardashian decides to use: her husband's or her sister's!
