X-Men Days Of Future Past Star Is Being Investigated For Tax Evasion

Fan Bingbing X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bingbing Fan is perhaps best known to audiences in the United States for her work in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Skiptrace. But in China, she's a major superstar. Now, she's also the subject of a major tax evasion controversy. According to recent reports, Bingbing Fan is currently under investigation for tax evasion, as part of a wave of investigations into the entertainment industry, according to a statement from the Bureau of Taxation. The controversy was brought to light by TV presenter Cui Yongyuan, who released compromising documents on his social media account. Fan has denied any and all wrongdoing.

Bingbing Fan's trouble reportedly began last week when Cui Yongyuan went onto his social media account and released several documents, which the TV presenter claimed were different contracts signed by the actress for the same job. It was shortly thereafter that The State Administration of Taxation released the official Sunday statement, per Deadline,. The process of signing more than one contract for the same job is reportedly fairly common, known as "yin yang contracts," which apparently allows individuals to present a contract with the lowest value to the government to avoid taxation. Hence, why the taxation bureau is currently investigating this situation, although they didn't name Fan Bingbing in the official report. Instead, the bureau claims taxation offices in Jiangsu and other places are currently being asked to carry out investigations.

This story is currently ongoing and it's not clear where it'll go from here. It's worth noting, however, that the Chinese government is continuing to crack down harder on corruption in Chinese entertainment fields. For instance, the government previously launched a campaign to focus on box office fraud last year. It is also keeping a closer eye on Chinese entertainment after doing away with the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television earlier last year. Way back in 2002, an actress Liu Xiaoqing was even imprisoned for tax evasion, so there definitely could be consequences.

Bingbing Fan was last seen in Sky Hunter last year. She recently filmed a role in the family fantasy film The King's Daughter, which also stars Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt, which comes out later in 2018. She'll also soon appear in the action drama The Bombing, alongside Bruce Willis. She busy, also filming a role in the fantasy film Perfect Blue, which is expected to arrive sometime next year. She most recently signed on to appear in 355, Simon Kinberg's directorial follow-up to next year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The flick 355 should feature a slew of familiar faces, including Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong'o, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and more. It's also worth noting that Bingbing Fan was considered the fifth highest-paid actress in 2016. She had earnings of approximately $17 million.
