During the preparations for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding, you probably heard a good bit about Thomas Markle. The father of the Suits actress-turned-Duchess of Sussex was embroiled in some controversy earlier this year when he was caught staging photos of himself to sell to the tabloids. It was shortly after this news became public that the Kenginston Palace announced that Thomas Markle would not be attending the Royal Wedding ceremony, although Meghan Markle later admitted that it related to her father's health and not the topic of discussion in gossip newspapers across the world. In any case, during the Royal Wedding festivities, we never saw nor heard from Thomas Markle. His side of the story was absent from the conversation. Now, one month after the fact, Thomas Markle has offered his thoughts on the lavish event and how he felt when watching his daughter walk down the aisle without him by her side. In an exclusive interview with Good Morning Britain, Father Markle called the Windsor Castle-held wedding ceremony "beautiful," and he said it was "a very emotional moment" for him, as you can imagine. Here's what Thomas Markle had to say about the recent Royal Wedding:
She was beautiful. I cried a little watching her. I was very proud and I couldn't see a better moment in my life. The whole world was watching my daughter. The unfortunate thing now is that I'm a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history instead of a dad walking his daughter down the aisle. It was a very emotional moment. I regretted it because I really wanted to walk her down the aisle. But I'm thankful for how it all went.
During the tell-all interview with Good Morning Britain, Thomas Markle also talked about the royal family he inherited thanks to the nuptials. Thomas claims to hold no resentment towards Prince Charles, who walked Meghan Markle down the aisle during the prestigious ceremony, and he said that if someone else was going to take his place during the event, he felt honored knowing it was Prince Charles, who has no daughters of his own. Per Markle:
I can't think of a better replacement than Prince Charles. He looked very handsome. I was jealous, I wish it was me, but thank God he was there and I thank him for that. It might have been a treat for him as well because he didn't have a daughter.
Thomas Markle also said he made a "mistake" when staging the photos. The father of the bride claims he apologized to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the incident, and he claims the then soon-to-wed couple was "very forgiving" of the whole ordeal. In fact, he also said he was still set to attend the Royal Wedding when he had a heart condition and later a heart attack, which was apparently caused by the stress he built up and endured during the traumatic time preceding the wedding. In any case, it's hard to know if Thomas Markle will win any favors with the Royal family. They were reportedly not privy to the interview he held with the talk show this morning, and it's possible they're not going to take kindly to their new father-in-law discussing what happened so openly. If they speak out about the interview in any official fashion, we'll keep you posted on their feelings, as well.
