This past week, someone with a sticky fingers and a sketchy moral compass broke into Kanye West’s studio space in Calabasas. About twenty thousand dollars of technological equipment was absconded with, including but not limited to laptops and desktop computers. Police are still on the hunt for the culprits, but the musician’s private security team is focusing on a group of suspects.
That’s because they apparently think the burglary was an inside job. According to TMZ, certain facts of the crime have led the interested parties to believe the culprits had prior knowledge of the space and what was inside it. For most small businesses, that would probably hyper-focus the search pretty quickly. Unfortunately, given Kanye West’s extreme fame, it makes the situation a little more complicated here. Not only does he assumedly have a far bigger entourage and group of workers who move in and out of the studio, all of those employees, friends and acquaintances are obviously far more likely to talk to their own friends and family members about where they work, what Kanye is up to and presumably, what type of equipment was inside the creative studio. Altogether, it’s a smaller group than everyone who lives in Los Angeles, but it’s probably a much wider net filled with persons of interest than they’d like.
All of the equipment that was taken from the studio has reportedly been replaced because if there’s one thing we all know about Kanye West, it’s that when he has an idea, he likes to move on it as quickly as possible. He’s not the type of guy to just wait around, nor is he the type of guy to let a setback slow him down. He’s full speed ahead, all the time.
Apart from the hunt for the computer bandit, the one big question many fans seem to have is whether or not the burglary will be featured on any of the Kardashian-related reality shows. In the past, the famous ladies have dealt with very personal events in front of the cameras, but there have also been a few situations Keeping Up With The Kardashians has decided to quietly gloss over. This one could go either way and may ultimately depend on whether the suspect turns out to be someone closely associated with the crew.
It would, of course, be reality television gold if the perpetrator turned out to be Scott or Lamar, but I’m not sure I would hold my breath on either of those loveable idiots.
We’ll keep you updated on this situation if/ when we get a real resolution.
