Kelly Clarkson may have backed away from plans to have a big and splashy wedding, but that doesn’t mean there’s some deep and shady reason behind her decision. At the end of the day, she just really doesn’t want to spend time planning some gargantuan extravaganza. Besides, she’d rather have something more intimate she can actually have fun at. Consequently, if you had pregnancy in the why-did-Kelly-Clarkson-cancel-her-wedding pool, you’re probably never getting that five dollars back.

Here’s a look at what the former American Idol winner had to say on Twitter

Clarkson and her soon-to-be husband/ son of her longtime manager Brandon Blackstock began dating very early in 2012. They hit it off immediately and by the end of 2012, they were engaged. She’s now living with him and his two children from a previous marriage and releasing stunning images from quite possibly the single greatest engagement photo shoot of all time. Those photographs, coupled with her trying to buy Jane Austen’s ring and rumors of a celebrity-studded guest list, had many observers wondering if this wedding would be one of the more covered events of the entire year, but obviously, that wasn’t in the cards.

Luckily, there’s no scientific research (that I can find) that shows any correlation between the type of ceremony one has and the long-term success of the marriage. So, if these two would rather just say their I-Dos with each other with only the children as witnesses, we should wish them nothing but the best. That’s their decision, and any guests who are miffed about the cancellation are free to have their own weddings or re-commitment ceremonies in whatever fashion and with as many guests as they’d like.

For the hell of it, I’ve gone ahead and embedded another shot from their brilliant engagement session below. As you can tell, they look extremely happy, and I hope they spend the rest of their lives making each other smile.
