Taylor Swift Says Her Ex-Boyfriends Are Free To Write Songs About Her

Taylor Swift and her ex-boyfriend may never ever be getting back together, but that doesn’t mean they can’t hook-up for a little auditory jousting on the radio. The pop star herself is no stranger to venting her frustrations about past relationships in song form, but to this point, none of her famous former romances have ever fired back. If Swift is to be believed, however, that gag order has nothing to do with her. In fact, she would be totally fine with John Mayer or Harry Styles or anyone else penning a track about her failings.

Here’s what she told In Style UK about the door she opens every time she chooses to make her feelings public.

"If I’m gonna write songs about my exes they can write songs about me. That’s how it works. I’m not gonna complain about it. I’m not gonna sit there and say, “I’m the only one who can write songs about this relationship.” It’s fair game."

What goes around, comes around, at least in theory. Luckily for Swift, however, karma might not be something she needs to worry about at this point. Mayer is actively trying to be less of a jerk and move on with his life alongside Katy Perry, and Styles performs with four other boys who likely wouldn’t be excited about helping him get out his relationship demons. Since she’s never had any bad blood with Joe Jonas and most of her other former flings are actors, she’s probably off the hook.

Still, at some point, Swift is going to find herself in a partnership that works, and at that point, she’s going to need to tap into different feelings to color her music. Fortunately, that's a pretty good problem to have.
