What Mama June Is Doing Now That Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Has Been Cancelled
Say what you will about the modern reality television landscape, but it has managed to effectively create some insanely ridiculous characters over the last few years. One of the most notable oddities to come out of this particular TV genre is the matriarch of the Honey Boo Boo household, Mama June. Although Here Comes Honey Boo Boo no longer airs on TLC, we've managed to keep tabs on the Honey Boo Boo ensemble, and Mama June's recent public appearances have got to be some of the oddest to date. She's now spending the summer appearing in gentleman's clubs across the country.
A few days ago, Mama June appeared at Larry Flynt's Hustler Club in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the establishment's "WTF Weekend." To put this appearance into perspective, she shared the marquee of WTF Weekend with adult film actress Jesse Jane. Clearly this is a far cry from the more family-related material that placed her in the public eye in the first place. This particular appearance was announced along with a few others, meaning that Mama June has committed her summer to making money by touring gentleman's clubs. You can check out the pretty lascivious poster for one of the events, below.
Ultimately it doesn't seem entirely surprising that Mama June has begun to make these sorts of appearances. The entire Honey Boo Boo clan has more or less fallen off the face of the earth after the cancellation of their hit TLC series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo -- largely due to the controversy surrounding Mama June's own reported dalliance with a convicted child molester. As is the case with many faded television personalities, Mama June seems to have resorted to somewhat gimmicky public appearances in order to maintain a profile for her fans. We'll have to wait and see whether that works out for her.
All that having been said, the whole Honey Boo Boo craze seemed like it was entirely constructed upon the idea of "WTF" from the very beginning, so perhaps this sort of public appearance shows that Mama June has finally come into her own. At the end of the day she's still getting paid for honest work, and as such we cannot really fault her for that.
