Is Supergirl Setting Up A Rivalry With Superman? The New Trailer Explains All

Supergirl will be more "super" than ever when Season 2 kicks off on The CW. Kara Danvers will get a visit from Clark Kent to help her save the day in National City. The cousins are bound to have a unique relationship as two of few surviving Kryptonians. Unlike other Kryptonians that Kara has encountered, Clark probably won't have a hidden evil agenda with. However, he might have a rivalry with his cousin. A new Season 2 trailer has hit the web, and it reveals--what looks like--a friendly rivalry between the two cousins. Check it out!

We already knew that Supergirl wasn't going to be in awe of Superman when he flies into town. The trailer clearly shows that everybody else is going to be star-struck by the Man of Steel, but she won't be nearly as impressed by him. The show wouldn't get off to a terribly fun start if it premiered with Kara resenting Clark for his fame; the sneak peek of her teasing him when she gets credit for a save indicates that Supergirl will be as light and fun with their relationship as it has been with everything else.

A friendly rivalry between Kara and Clark could be the perfect way to introduce a huge hero like Superman as a side character in a show that's actually all about Supergirl. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg already promised that their team-up will be a partnership rather than Superman zooming in to save the day; it looks like Kara is more than ready to hold her own alongside her famous cousin.

Of course, Kara doesn't seem to be prepared for her sister's reaction to Superman. Alex won't be happy to share the spotlight with Clark when she sees just how excited Kara is to have another family member in the mix, but the scent of Superman is evidently enough to preoccupy her at first. If only television was smell-o-vision and we could experience what has Alex so happy for ourselves.

Winn will evidently need some time to adjust to Superman in the mix. His question of how Superman shaves is one that I hope actually gets an answer on-screen. I've definitely wondered about how the Kryptonians handle some of their daily routines on Earth. Does Superman have a Kryptonite razor? Do Kryptonians naturally shed their facial hair under a yellow sun? Does he use a mirror to heat-vision it off his face?

The mention of Gotham in the trailer was a fun way to tease the existence of DC's other huge superhero, although the man's desire to move back to the city indicates that either Batman doesn't exist in Supergirl's universe or he's awesome at cleaning up the streets. Gotham has never exactly been painted as an idyllic home for anybody. Still, the mention could mean that we're in for some Batman characters at some point. We'll probably never get the Caped Crusader himself, but who's to say Oracle or Batwoman or Nightwing are off the table?

Be sure to tune in to The CW on Monday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET to see the friendly rivalry between Supergirl and Superman on the small screen. Check out our fall TV premiere schedule to see when your other favorite shows will be back on the airwaves.
